................Because of their tremendous dedication over the years to helping families cope with the devastation of this disease, it is our turn to dedicate something to them. Since our organization serves Northern California, we are funding the ‘Bea and John Gorman Scholarship’ for students attending any college in the Northern California area. It will help support students who are studying gerontology or geriatric nursing. Due to Bea and John’s efforts, Alzheimer’s Aid Society currently has three offices -- Sacramento, Lodi, and Modesto. Their famous ‘Blue Booklet,’ videos, lists of caregivers, published books, and a large array of information is available in each office. Bea & John publish a newsletter distributed to thousands of readers, they provide several weekly support groups, and travel wherever needed, presenting seminars and lectures to business groups, caregivers and family members.
................They get queries from all over the world, not only from caregivers, but from doctors who need help with specific concerns or behaviors of patients. These people know Bea and John are privy to current research information. Over the years, Bea and John have received numerous awards and citations for service from businesses, service clubs, local and federal government agencies, as well as letters of thanks from President Bush and California Governor Schwarzenegger.
